Netra Basti Aftercare: What to Do and Avoid in the First 48 Hours (your ayurvedic wellness retreat plan)

By Diamond Vitality Center & Salt Spa | July 27, 2026

One rule matters most right after Netra Basti: don’t rub or touch your eyes. People leave our space feeling deeply relaxed, sometimes so relaxed they fall asleep during other therapies here, and we want you to protect that calm, nourished feeling instead of stirring up irritation. Netra Basti is a warm ghee bath for the eyes, so the first 24 to 48 hours in Louisville are all about keeping things clean, quiet, and low-stimulation.

Netra Basti aftercare guide for the first 48 hours in Louisville, CO

Quick 48-hour snapshot: rest your eyes, avoid rubbing or touching them, skip makeup and contact lenses, limit screen time, stay out of pools and hot tubs, avoid hot sweaty exercise, and use only the eye drops or washes we recommend. If you have worsening pain, sudden vision loss, or heavy discharge, reach out right away.

If you’re fitting this into a real life schedule, commuting, parenting, and trying to keep your day moving, this guide is meant to be simple. It also matters here in Colorado. Our high-altitude, dry, sunny climate can make eyes feel drier than expected after any eye-focused therapy, so sunglasses and hydration pull more weight than people think.

0 to 24 hours after Netra Basti: keep it clean, quiet, and hands off

Right after your 60-minute Netra Basti session, we generally recommend planning for a low-demand evening. You don’t need to block off days, but you do want to protect the work we just did.

Do

  • Rest your eyes. Short breaks with eyes closed tend to help a lot.
  • Use only the drops, medicated ghee, or sterile wash we recommend. Keep it simple.
  • Hydrate more than usual. Dry air in Louisville and the surrounding Front Range can sneak up on you.
  • Wear sunglasses outside, even for quick errands near Old Town or Downtown Louisville.

Avoid

  • Rubbing your eyes, even “lightly.” This is the big one.
  • Eye makeup for at least 24 hours. Mascara and liner love to migrate.
  • Contact lenses for at least 24 hours, or longer if we tell you to wait.
  • Heavy screen time. If you need to work, turn down brightness and take frequent breaks.
  • Swimming, hot tubs, steam rooms, and anything that feels “splashy” or germy around the eyes.

A quick note on driving: if your vision is blurred, don’t drive until it clears. Mild temporary blurring can happen right after Netra Basti since we’ve been working directly with the eyes, and you’re better off giving it time than pushing through it.

24 to 72 hours: protect your eyes from Colorado sun, wind, and sweat

Once you’re past the first day, most people feel normal and want to jump back into routine. That’s fine. We just want you to avoid the handful of things that commonly irritate eyes in the next couple of days.

Outdoor time is okay, but don’t dare the wind

Use sunglasses outside and skip dusty, windy activities for a couple of days. Around the Coal Creek corridor, that often means waiting on trail rides or windy open-space walks until your eyes feel fully settled.

Hold off on heavy sweating and hot classes

Sweat plus wiping your face is a setup for rubbing your eyes without thinking. We generally recommend avoiding hot yoga, intense cardio, and sauna-style heat for 48 to 72 hours.

If you’re an early-morning or after-work person: Netra Basti fits well into a Louisville schedule, but plan your workout first, then do Netra Basti afterward. It’s easier than trying to “behave” for two days after a sweaty session.

Homecare products after Netra Basti: stick with medicated ghee, recommended drops, or a sterile wash

This is where people accidentally sabotage their result. Your eyes might feel different, and the impulse is to “add something” from your cabinet. Don’t.

  • Use only what we recommended: practitioner-recommended medicated ghee, eye drops, or a sterile triphala wash.
  • Skip over-the-counter eye drops unless we’ve talked about them. Some drops can be drying or irritating depending on what’s in them.
  • No DIY oils near the eyes. “Natural” doesn’t always mean safe for this area.
  • Keep face products away from the lash line for the first day. It’s easy for cleanser, retinol, or strong acids to migrate.

If you’re already coming to us for other care, you’ll recognize this vibe. Our team is big on simple aftercare and hydration. People mention that we remind them to drink extra water after sessions even when they’re regulars, because we care and it makes a difference.

Normal vs not normal: when to reach out to our Louisville team

We want you to feel supported after you leave our office in Old Town and Downtown Louisville along West South Boulder Road. A little temporary blurring, mild redness, or a “tired eyes” feeling right after Netra Basti can happen. It should improve, not intensify.

Reach out right away if you have: increased pain, sharp or sudden vision changes, heavy or persistent discharge, fever, or anything that feels beyond mild temporary blurring.

“They always remind you to drink extra water after your session even if you're a regular client -- because they CARE!”

These aftercare steps are the same guidance we give clients coming in from Louisville, Lafayette, Superior, Boulder, Broomfield, and Erie. If you’re unsure about anything, send a note or call. We’d rather answer a quick question than have you guess.

Most people feel ready to get back to normal plans the same day, but we want you to protect the first 24 to 48 hours. Keep your hands off your eyes, skip makeup and contacts for at least 24 hours, and avoid swimming or heavy sweating for 48 to 72 hours. If anything feels like it’s getting worse instead of better, reach out.

Plan on no contact lenses for at least 24 hours, or longer if we advise you to wait. Contacts can irritate the surface of the eye and make you rub without noticing. If you need vision correction that day, glasses are the safer choice.

Mild temporary blurring can happen right after Netra Basti because we’ve been working directly with the eyes. It should improve as your eyes settle. Don’t drive if your vision is blurred. If you notice sudden vision loss, sharp changes, or blurring that worsens, reach out right away.

You can usually shower the same day, but keep it gentle around the eyes. Avoid getting cleanser, shampoo, steam, or hot water directly into the eyes for the first 24 hours, and don’t scrub the eye area. Pat dry and keep products away from the lash line at first.

Light movement is often fine, but we generally recommend skipping hot, sweaty exercise for 48 to 72 hours. For Coal Creek Trail specifically, wait a couple of days if it’s windy or dusty. Sweat, wind, and sunglasses adjustments can all lead to rubbing your eyes without thinking.
